An open door…

could change so many lives, for good.

Can ‘Tradition’ be a direct threat to Diversity’s progress? And, could this mean there is no place for empathy, tolerance or opportunity within a traditional environment?

tradition

Whose tradition is it anyway?

Many institutions including family owned businesses view ‘tradition’ or ‘traditional’ as one of their main core values. And, handing over any successful institution to your siblings or close associates seems, on the surface quite natural and perfectly reasonable.

However, we found that many ’traditional’ organisations openly display close members of their management inner circle proudly showing their lack of diversity on their websites and across all social media. Any onlooker would reasonably observe this lack of diversity to be an organisation’s ’Unique Selling Proposition’ (USP).

Isolation

The traditional threat to Diversity.

We must bear in mind that this is not an attack against tradition itself as there are many positive elements in its favour. But, occasionally the word ‘tradition’ becomes a mechanism for division, which prevents opportunity, growth and development of others.

The issue lies with the people within those institutions. Those who lack the invention and fortitude to think outside the box and make the appropriate adjustments necessary to thrive under modern conditions.

Furthermore, it’s fair to say that these are the same people who are responsible for stifling diversity and its lack of progress and continue to hide behind the word ‘tradition’.

empathy

Finding Empathy

Modern Diversity believe that empathy is a critical element in building better, stronger and more positive relationships through first-hand experiences. We’ll always align ourselves with common cultural issues in order to defeat long held unhelpful narratives that promote division.

Although we all like to feel empathy we seldom give empathy. It’s fair to say that ‘knowledge’ can divide us where, ‘empathy’ binds us. The capacity to understand or feel what another person is experiencing from within their frame of reference is a life enhancing experience for both parties.

Showing empathy enables us to build social connections, and to feel connected to others is hugely important for our optimal wellbeing. It is the very basis of human relationships and helps us to feel valued, loved, and cared for. Building strong and positive relationships along the way.

tolerance

Shaping Tolerance

It’s widely accepted that tolerance is instrumental in connecting and shaping our capacity to evolve. It all starts by refusing to accept unqualified perceptions which preclude us from making fair, honest, objective, and moral judgments.

Tolerant people are ostensibly a calmer and more peaceful bunch. This strengthens their own mental wellbeing as it allows a more measured approach to challenges, making them great leaders. It enables us to rationalise much quicker and make logical decisions with patient understanding. Embracing the gift of tolerance enables us to accept our differences.

Whether rich or poor, black or white, religious or atheist, woman or man, gay or straight, tolerance helps us to treat others with fairness and judge with equity.

opportunity

Creating Opportunity

Growing and expanding potential opportunities. Redefining old-fashioned stereotypes. Helping create a better, fairer and more equal pathways to success for everyone.

A popular saying once told us “variety is the spice of life”. The idea behind this expression is that life would be boring if everything were the same all the time. Sadly this idiom written 1875 by William Cowper has rarely been exercised when it comes to opportunity. Therefore, when using that analogy what does that make us?

Opening up opportunity to everyone will indeed add greater spice, colour and flavour to your commercial, professional, social and personal experiences. Enabling everyone an equal chance to shine can also increase your own education, tolerance and sense of wellbeing.

branding

Enhancing Brand Position

It’s no coincidence that the world’s most successful businesses i.e. major Banks, Aerospace, Food and Drink, Online Retailers, Clothing, and Tech companies, allow (EDI) Equality, Diversity and Inclusion to dominate their Brand proposition.

Their intuition and capacity to lead or adapt to new thinking within our modern world is hands-down key to longevity and success at the top of the financial food chain. These modern thinking giants proudly display, promote and share a ‘caring for others’ attitude and provide a generously supported culture around diversity and inclusion.

The ‘get back’ is that genuine diversity bolsters the brand-offering. Plus multiple layers of experiences help approach new markets much easier whilst creating and building confidence and loyalty from both investors and customers.

Standing on the shoulders of giants for smart smaller businesses could have a profoundly similar affect on their organisation too, and Modern Diversity is always on hand to help, when required?
